Army Heritage and Education Center

AHEC is devoted to telling the story of the American soldier.  The complex includes exhibit space, a research library, and outdoor displays.  A history trail includes replicas of historic structures like a Revolutionary War redoubt, a World War I trench, and a World War II training camp.

Carlisle Barracks/Hessian Guardhouse

Carlisle Barracks is the second oldest Army post in the United States.  The oldest building on the post is Hessian Guardhouse, which local legend holds was built by Hessian prisoners during the Revolutionary War.

Fort Mifflin

Fort Mifflin is located along the Delaware River, at the northern end Philadelphia International Airport runway.  Known as the "Fort That Saved America," Fort Mifflin was the site of a Revolutionary War battle and was an active military post until the 1950s.

Gettysburg National Military Park

The site of the largest battle of the American Civil War is run by the National Park Service.  The park includes memorials and monuments, as well as a recently opened visitors center with a museum and a large 360 degree painting known as The Cyclorama.

Washington's Crossing Historical Park

Washington's Crossing Historic Park is the site of the Continental Army's crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas Day, 1776.  The Park contains a southern section featuring McConkey's Ferry and Tavern and a northern section featuring the Thompson-Neely House and Bowman's Hill Tower.

Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine

The 1814 attack on Baltimore's Fort McHenry was the inspiration for the Star Spangled Banner.  The Fort was an active military post through World War II.  A new visitors center opened recently.

Fort Delaware State Park

Fort Delaware is located on an island in the middle of the Delaware River.  The Fort was in use from the Civil War, when it served as a prison camp, through the end of World War II.  The Fort is open for tours and activities and can only be reached by ferry.

Fort Mott and Finns Point

Fort Mott was a US Army post during the Spanish-American War and First World War eras.  Located on the New Jersey shore of the Delaware River, it is across from Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island.  Over 2,000 Confederate prisoners of war who perished at Fort Delaware are buried at nearby Finns Point National Cemetery.  Fort Mott is one of the premiere examples of Eddicott Period seacoast fortifications in the Mid Atlantic states.

Fort Loudon

Fort Loudoun is a replica of a French and Indian War era fortification.  There is also a visitors center run by the Fort Loudoun Historical Society.
